How to keep combat sports gear clean and usable

Editorial article5 min readMay 11, 2026Updated: May 18, 2026

Consistent hygiene is one of the easiest ways to extend gear lifespan and improve training comfort. It is a small habit with a very real impact on long-term cost of use.

Drying after training

One of the biggest mistakes is throwing gloves or guards into a closed bag and leaving them there all night. Moisture stays trapped inside and the gear loses freshness much faster.

  • take the gear out of the bag as soon as possible
  • open gloves and let them air out naturally
  • deodorizers help only when used consistently

Cleaning versus conditioning

Not every product fits every surface. Textile interiors need something different from synthetic outer shells or natural leather. Using material-appropriate products is usually better than random household cleaners.

Storage and rotation

If you train often, rotating wraps or gloves can help a lot. The gear gets enough time to dry fully, which reduces wear caused by repeated use in a damp state.

The most important rule is simple: dry gear after every session, clean it regularly and do not leave damp equipment sealed in a bag for hours.
